Battle for Carolina

Appalachian State Football is ENGRAINED into the fabric of the High Country, and more specifically Boone NC. That’s why, when we got the chance to capture the 2022 season opener first hand we didn’t hesitate!
The cherry on top was that the opposing team was the University of North Carolina, the OTHER greatest university in NC! How can it get any better?! I’ll tell you how! An all out BATTLE until the very LAST SECONDS! To top it all off Kidd Brewer Stadium hit an all time high attendance record of 40,168 fans!
From the very first snap, both schools were determined to prove who the better team was. BAM BAM BAM! One after another both teams had scored several times in what seemed like 5 minutes!
They quickly figured out each other’s tactics and the game slowed down a little. Then, once again, the scoring commenced! App ended up scoring their last touchdown with just SECONDS left in the 4th quarter! The crowd erupted and it was one of the CRAZIEST crowds we’ve ever seen! It felt like a Hollywood movie was playing right before our eyes!
When the clock hit zero, UNC had won 63-61. It was was such a well deserved win, because both teams played as if their lives depended on it!
Everyone quickly filled the middle of the field to congratulate each other on the magnificent game that was just played. There was such a beautiful amount of respect and love on that field, even though one team had to walk away with a loss. This will be a game remembered by many and we can’t wait for the next, “Battle for Carolina”!
